Sickness

Of course, Clayton got sick right before Christmas. He has never really been sick before, but the week before Christmas, he developed this little cough, which progressively got worse. We took him to the doctor and they diagnosed him with croup. I don’t know how many moms have had a kiddo with croup before, but it was really scary. The doctor told us that we should sleep in the same room with him in case he had trouble breathing. If he had any trouble, we were told to take him to a bathroom with a steamy shower, give him warm liquids and if that didn’t help to take him to the emergency room. Well, that totally freaked us out, since we hadn’t ever dealt with a sick baby. Needless to say, we did not get any sleep that first night because Nick and I both slept on the floor of his room and every time he coughed, we grabbed him and took him to do steam treatments. After the first night, I don’t think we were as shell-shocked with the coughing and we handled it better. It took about 3 days for the croup to go away, but then Clayton developed bronchitis and ear infections which unfortunately peaked on Christmas. He was running a fever most of the day, but he was such a trooper while we participated in all of the festivities.
